Women in Ancient Goddess Cultures vs. Modern Women

keywords: ancient cultures, goddess worship

There are many differences between ancient women in Goddess based societies and women today. In ancient Goddess based societies, women were seen as equal to men, while women today are often seen as inferior to men. Ancient women also had a great deal of power and autonomy, while women today often have very little power and autonomy. Women in Mesopotamia (3000-400 BCE): Women in ancient Mesopotamia were very influential and had a lot of control over their own lives. Not only were they able to raise children but they were allowed to teach, write, and do business. Women also chose whom they wanted to marry and could divorce their husband if they did not want to be married anymore. Their husbands had no say in the matter. Matriarchal societies, such as the Minoans and the Amazons, also granted women power that did not exist in other ancient societies. In these types of societies, women were able to have a voice and a say in what happened within their society. Additionally, ancient women were often highly respected and revered, while women today are often treated as second-class citizens. The veneration of goddesses has been a part of the human culture for thousands of years. The earliest records of goddess worship date back to the Neolithic Era. Finally, ancient women were often able to participate in all aspects of society, while women today are often excluded from many key aspects of society.

Women & Religion

keywords: a woman’s rights, women equality, the rise of christianity

Christianity has been in conflict with many aspects of ancient Goddess based societies since its inception. Christianity teaches that women are subordinate to men and that they should be submissive to their husbands. Additionally, Christianity teaches that women should not participate in public life and that they should be focused on their domestic duties. These teachings directly contradict the equality of women that was prevalent in ancient Goddess based societies. As a result, Christianity has often been seen as a threat to the empowerment of women.

The Catholic Church has put a great deal of importance on Mary, the mother of Jesus, in an effort to convert matriarchal societies. The Church teaches that Mary was a Virgin who gave birth to Jesus through Immaculate Conception. Additionally, the Church teaches that Mary is the Queen of Heaven and that she intercedes on behalf of humanity. The Church also teaches that Mary is the model of virtue and that all women should aspire to be like her. By elevating Mary to such a high position, the Catholic Church is able to present a positive image of women that is in stark contrast to the negative image of women that is often presented by Christianity. As a result, the Catholic Church has been able to make inroads into converting matriarchal societies to Christianity.

Conclusion: Why a Matriarchy is So Important for the Future of Feminism

In conclusion, Even today patriarchal religions like Christianity are still trying to sell snake oil to matriarchal religion’s to get them to convert because what they want is a male dominated power structure. They are threatened by powerful women.
